We offer a free initial interview so that you can talk to one of our experts about your specific needs and we can give you the most accurate estimates of time scales and cost with no obligations. This can be done over the phone or in the office, if you would like to make an appointment just call our office on 01204 386 214 or email us
What is included?
Since we charge by the hour our fees include anything relating to the Probate that you require us to do. We can do as much or as little as you require. For example if you want us to organise the clearing of any properties, getting quotes from estate agents, valuation and/or sale of any assets etc. we can assist in all these things. If, however, you only want assistance in obtaining the Grant of Probate and collecting in money from bank accounts, then we can limit our service to that. Again we are happy to discuss with you exactly what you require before you instruct us.
What is not included?
If there is a property/properties as part of the estate, their sale would have to be dealt with by conveyancers. Our Conveyancing department can help you with this and generally it would be for a fixed fee. This would not be included in the rest of the probate file. While it can be easier to deal with the whole process at one firm and our probate and conveyancing departments work closely together we will be happy to work with any other firm you instruct to deal with the property matters.
Should a dispute arise over the estate, this is not dealt with as part of the probate matter. However, our litigation department has considerable experience and would be able to assist. Again we are happy to work with a different firm if you prefer. This is only if there is a serious dispute such as contesting the will.

Probate matters can differ greatly in time scales and work done depending on individual circumstances so it is difficult to give a general idea of either without talking to you about the specifics of the estate. However, there are key factors involved in most probates that we can use to give some indication of time. For a simple estate the average time is 3 – 6 months and our average fee, excluding VAT, is in the region of £1,000.
Disbursements are costs relating to your matter that are payable to third parties such as the fee for obtaining a grant of Probate. We will handle payment of such fees as part of our service but they do not form part of our fees. Such likely disbursements are:

• Swearing an oath £5-£10 per executor
• Copies of the Grant of Probate/Letters of Administration 50p per copy (usually need 1 per asset)
