Care Proceedings
Dealing with Social Services
If you are dealing with social services, also referred to as the Local Authority, in relation to your child or children we can assist you, whatever stage you are at. Social Services usually issue parents or guardian’s with a letter before proceedings, inviting them to a meeting to discuss the concerns of the social work team and why they are considering having to take further action including issuing care proceedings and removing the child from your care.
You are entitled to legal representation at this meeting if you have parental responsibility for the child. This means either you are a parent or you have been appointed as a guardian by a court order. You should talk to us as soon as you are informed of the meeting so we can advise you of the options and explain the process. We will also attend the meeting with you to help you through the process.
Our solicitors can help you with:
If social services have issued proceedings or a child/children have been removed then you should contact us straight away in order for us to advise you of the options and likely next steps.
Legal Aid is available to parents or legal guardian’s automatically in care proceedings so it will not cost you anything.
It is possible for Legal Aid to be granted to other joined parties on occasion such as grandparents or partners of the parents if the children will reside with them. Contact us to find out or for information about the cost of representing you if you are not eligible for legal aid.
